Giovanni Baffetti teaches Italian literature at the University of Bologna. He specializes in Renaissance and Baroque literature and has a particular interest in the rhetorical aspects of early modern scientific discourse. He is the author of Retorica e scienza: Cultura gesuitica e Seicento italiano (Bologna: CLUEB, 1997) and La retorica, l’ingegno e l’anima (Pisa: Pacini, 2006). He has edited volumes on Letteratura e orizzonti scientifici (Bologna: Il Mulino, 1997) and on Letteratura in forma di sermone (with C. Delcorno and G. Auzzas, Firenze: Olschki, 2003). He also edited and wrote a commentary for Torquato Tasso’s Dialoghi (Milano: Rizzoli, 1998).
