Jonathan Strauss is Associate Professor of French and Chair of the Department of French & Italian at the Miami University of Ohio. He specializes in 19th and 20th century French literature, philosophy, visual arts, and subjectivity. Professor Strauss’ publications include Subjects of Terror: Nerval, Hegel, and the Modern Self (Stanford U.P., 1998); ed. Post-Mortem: The State of Death as a Modern Construct. Diacritics 30:3 (Fall 2000); articles on Paul Eluard, Georges Bataille, Marguerite Duras, Nerval, Heidegger and others. He has also completed translations from French and German, and his current book project is The Filthy Longing: Dirtiness and Identity in Post-Revolutionary France.
