Carlo Testa is Professor of Italian at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and a specialist of Italian cinema. His recent publications focus on the cultural re-contextualization of literature in film. His books include Masters of Two Arts: Re-creation of European Literatures in Italian Cinema (University of Toronto Press, 2002) and Italian Cinema and Modern European Literatures: 1945-2000 (Greenwood Praeger, 2002). He has also engaged in a study of the typology and ideology of the representation of violence in post-Second World War Italian cinema, covering a wide spectrum of represented ages and historical contexts. On this topic he has published articles including “Les rouges et les noirs: Couleurs du terrorisme dans le cinéma italien” (in Le terrorisme dans tous ses Etats, Gius Gargiulo and Otmar Seul, editors) and “Italian Political Cinema: Surveying a Once Glorious Genre in Times of Anguish” (Italian Seminar, Cornell University).
Professor Testa is a candidate for the senior position in Italian cinema in the Department of French and Italian, Indiana University-Bloomington.
