Circolo Italiano Film Series - Fall 2009
"Contemporary Films on the Family in Italy"

Films will be shown Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in Myers Hall 130. Films are in Italian with English subtitles. The series is free and open to the public.

(Along the Ridge) 2006
Director: Kim Rossi-Stuart, 108 minutes.

Eleven-year-old Tommi and his sister Viola live in a single-parent home. They and their father Renato (Kim Rossi-Stuart) face the financial difficulties of today like many Italian families, but they also have to deal with a psychologically unstable mother who comes and goes.

(My Brother is an Only Child) 2007
Director: Daniele Luchetti, 108 minutes.

In the 1960's Antonio ("Accio") grows up with different beliefs than his older brother Manrico, a factory worker with communist ideals. When Antonio takes an interest in fascism and joins the Movimento Sociale Italiano, their relationship becomes more difficult, until a girl enters their lives.

20-year-old Vince can't stand being at home during the summer after his dad loses his factory job and his mom leaves town to find work in nearby Pescara. All members in this family, as well as Vince's new girlfriend, will struggle to break free from that which is holding them back.

(Saturn in Opposition) 2007
Director: Ferzan Ozpetek, 110 min

At Davide's home many friends regularly meet, including Antonio, Neval, Sergio, Roberta and Lorenzo. They all have their own lives and experiences. During one dinner, Lorenzo is suddenly taken ill and goes into a coma. It will be for all of his friends a chance to deal with a great loss and the acceptance of it.
