French Major
Students must complete 29 credit hours in French above F100-150 including:
- F313
- 6 credit hours from: F305, F306, F361, F362, F363, F375
- and at least 11 credit hours in fourth-year courses including at least two* 3 credit courses taken on the Bloomington campus exclusive of F495
* If you matriculated prior to Summer 2005, only one 3 credit course at the 400-level must be taken on the Bloomington campus.
Italian Major
Students must complete 27 credit hours in Italian above M100-M150, or 25 credit hours above M100-M150 if they successfully complete M215, including at least:
- at least 7 credit hours in fourth-year courses
- one 3 credit, fourth-year course taken on the Bloomington campus exclusive of M495
French Minor
Students must complete 15 credit hours in French past the third semester, including:
- 6 credit hours of F250, F255 or F265 and F300
- 9 credit hours of 300-400 level courses including:
- one course from the following: F305, F306, F361,
F362, F363, F375
- one course from the following: F313, F315, F316
Italian Minor
At least 15 credit hours of course work past the second semester, including:
- M200 and M250, or M215
- at least 2 courses from among: M300, M301, M305, M307, M308
- at least one course at the 400 level
In Addition
Students majoring in education, journalism, or business should consider minoring or taking a concentration (24 hours) in French and Italian. For example, we offer FRIT F317, French in the Business World, which is geared specifically toward obtaining a strong business lexicon and conversation ability. France and Italy have the world's fourth and fifth largest economies, respectively, and are proven leaders in many economic sectors.
