Circolo Italiano

The Circolo Italiano meets each week and is open to all who want to interact in a friendly environment in order to improve their language skills, regardless of their academic affiliation. In addition to showing Italian films (with English subtitles), the Circolo offers the chance for conversation with many native speakers and other students of Italian.

Activities

Conversation nights

Circolo Italiano meets every other Monday from 6:00-7:15 pm in Ballantine Hall 004 beginning January 14. All those interested in conversing in Italian are invited to the meetings of Circolo. Meeting dates for this semester are January 14 and 28; February 11 and 25; March 18; April 1 and 22.

Film nights

The Circolo hosts 4-5 film showings each semester. In Spring 2013 the theme is “Same-sex relationships in Italian cinema.” Films are shown on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm. The films are in Italian with English subtitles, and there will be a brief introduction to each one. Our first film is Wednesday, Feb. 6. Check out the film schedule, and feel free to bring snacks!

Campionato di calcetto

Each spring semester the Italian program hosts an indoor soccer championship. Teams are composed of students from each Italian class who play a set of exhilarating, Italian-speaking and cheering single-elimination soccer matches.

A Night at the Opera

Once or twice each academic year, the Italian program organizes a trip to the Musical Arts Center at our own Jacobs School of Music to see an opera sung in Italian. If you have never been to an opera before or fear you won't like it, we're pretty sure you'll be surprised.

Indiana Oggi - Parole in Libertà

The last two years, a student group has published an all-Italian newspaper with help from Italian instructors. The paper has come out in April and included faculty profiles, news stories, photos, comics, and recipes. We plan to publish another edition this year. View the newspaper.
