Welcome Week Events
Welcome Week is specifically designed to introduce students and family to the people of IU, to new surroundings, to IU's learning community, and to IU's vast support resources. Students and family can read about each event from links on the right and use the notes below to get off to a great start at IUB.
Things to do to get started at IUB:
- Attend the Induction Ceremony on first day of Welcome Week and socialize at the Induction Picnic afterward.
- Take your class schedule and find each of your classrooms. Maybe you'll even have the opportunity to introduce yourself to a professor or instructor.
- Learn about cultural opportunities on campus. Visit at least one museum and check out the theater, opera, and music performance schedules for this year. Be sure to attend CultureFest.
- Visit the Wells Library to learn about all the information, resources and services you'll be using for your classes.
- Attend all of your residence floor and residence center activities. Meet your neighbors and get to know the people you'll be living with for the next nine months.
- Find out about support services and education resources. Hit as many open houses as you can on Friday afternoon and qualify for great prizes.
- Work out at the Student Recreation Sports Center (SRSC) and/or HPER.
- Do something social. Take advantage of the opportunities in your residence center, go to the Union Board movie, and don't miss the Traditions and Spirit of IU event.
- Establish a local banking account and plan your budget. Don't get caught short later by not planning ahead.
- Be prepared for and attend all of your schedules and academic commitments. This includes your school/college academic orientation, advising meeting, and any placement exams you might still need to take.
- Visit the bookstores. Take your class schedule with you to buy your books. Many residence centers plan group trips to the bookstores and make it into a social event.
