LEVITUS94 OCEAN ATLAS: SALINITY
|
Procedures:
- The entry website provides access to the
Levitus 1994 ocean atlas
- Under the second heading "Datasets and variables" it is possible to
select:
-
ANNUAL
,
MONTHLY
or
SEASONAL
- For Q. 1-12 and Q. 17-19 select
ANNUAL
- then salinity under the heading "Datasets and variables"
- then click on the color image under LEVITUS94 ANNUAL sal options
- this color image is to the right of the IRI header
- The image presented is ANNUAL salinity as a global color map
- The map can be modified according to user-defined options:
- 1. The depth can be set in the box above the map
- 2. The upper limit for the vertical axis is set in the upper box left
of the map
- 3. The lower limit for the vertical axis is set in the lower box left
of the map
- 4. The left margin for the horizontal axis is set in the box to the
lower left of the map
- 5. The right margin for the horizontal axis is set in the box to the
lower right of the map
- 6. The lower limit for the color scale is set to the lower left of
the map
- 7. The upper limit for the color scale is set to the lower right of
the map
- 8. The first pull-down menu sets the horizonal axis (latitude, longitude,
depth)
- 9. A second pull-down menu sets the vertical axis (latitude, longitude,
depth)
- 10. For the pull-down menu for map features select draw coasts
- 11. For the pull-down menu for map colors select colors / contours
- Once the necessary parameters have been entered, the map can be redrawn
using the button to its left, above the help icon.
- For Q. 11-12 The axes need to be reset:
- The horizontal axis should be set to latitude (pull-down #8)
- The vertical axis should be set to depth (pull-down #9)
- The uppermost box (#1) then become longitude on redrawing
- Both the depth scale (#2, #3) and latitude range (#4, #5) need to
be reset.
- The procedures are similar for the other questions except that different
data sets are chosen
