Water/Storm water reduction

  • Low-flow toilets, showers and faucets
  • 440-square-foot green roof on Memorial Stadium - Crumb rubber synthetic turf system reduces fertilizer, pesticide, and water inputs
  • No- and low-mow out-of-play natural areas (golf course and cross-country) reduces mowing and the amount of chemicals and water applied

Food [Top]

  • 22-28% of the produce served in Athletics dining comes from no more than 150 miles away
  • Reduced the amount of food waste from the student-athletes’ dinning area by 45-50 percent by going to a one-plate-at-a-time policy in 2005
  • Serving 100 percent Indiana popcorn at concessions
  • 100 percent compostable and biodegradable green packaging will be available throughout the IU football season club level suites (Stadium Club, Media Level, 6th Floor Suites, and Henke Hall of Champions)
  • All catering through Championship Catering will utilize "greenware" as its standard product for cups, bowls, plates, and utensils

Recycling [Top]

  • Event Recycling - all plastics (no Styrofoam), aluminum, paper, cardboard, and paperboard collected
  • Office Recycling – recycling bins in over 150 staff offices - collecting all plastics, aluminum, paper, cardboard and paperboard
  • Batteries, light bulbs, and toner and ink cartridges are recycled in the department
  • During 2009, 2010, and 2011 E-waste days, hosted by the Athletics Department, nearly 600 tons of electronic waste was diverted from the landfill

Computer Services [Top]

  • Distribution of sustainable printing prompt encouraging staff to print double-sided, use "green" fonts, increase margins, and decrease toner grey scale

Energy Upgrades [Top]

  • Assembly Hall, Mellencamp Pavilion, and Memorial Stadium will be included in the first phase of the upcoming Qualified Energy Savings Project - upgrading HVAC, lighting, mechanical and control systems in various buildings
  • New baseball and softball complex- ready for use by Spring 2013- will be LEED certified

Transportation [Top]

  • Spring 2012 installation of five bicycle racks surrounding Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall 

Game-day Initiatives [Top]

  • Based on the success of our game-day initiatives last season, we will continue and expand all programs, including recylcing, for the 2012-2013
  • Student-volunteers will be in the stadium on game-day educating and engaging fans on recycling and departmental sustainability efforts
  • Cell phones will be collected and recycled by ECO CELL during home games in the North End Zone. Remember to delete your personal information from your phone prior to recycling, as ECO CELL and Indiana University are not responsible for any information left on phones
