The Indiana University Department of Gender Studies is a department in the College of Arts & Sciences ("The College"). Our faculty and administrative offices are located in Memorial Hall, East - Room 130, 1021 East Third St. / Bloomington, Indiana / 47405. We are on the south side of campus, located between the IU School of Music and Jordan Hall on East Third St. (We're the 85 year-old "castle" building next to the Jordan Hall Greenhouse.) ALL IU and many city busses pass in front of Memorial Hall where we have a bus stop at our entrance. Parking is severely limited at Memorial Hall. All visitors to our department are encouraged to park in the Atwater Street Parking Garage which is one block west of Memorial Hall and Jordan Hall. To reach the garage, take Atwater Street past IU Optometry. Stay in the left lane on Atwater and you will see a large parking garage on your left. You enter it by turning on the street (Faculty St.) just past the end of the garage (not the street before the garage). If you have an "A" parking sticker or guest/visitor tag, you won’t have to pay when you exit. Otherwise you can pay a nominal fee -- the garage is "A or pay".
If you are driving from the Indianapolis Airport:
Proceed East on Third St. a few blocks until the Dunn St. traffic light. Now Third St. becomes one way the wrong way -- so you are forced to bear right onto Atwater Street. Stay to the right on Atwater (because there’s a split right away, so stay in the two lanes on the right. Once on Atwater you’re down to just two lanes, you should work your way to the left lane of Atwater by the time you get to the IU School of Optometry. You should be in the left lane as you are crossing Woodlawn Ave, and then get to the farthest left lane alongside the large parking garage on your left. It’s just past the IU School of Optometry. You enter this Atwater Parking Garage by turning left on Faculty Street just past the end of the garage (not the street before the garage). We will arrange a parking sticker for our department guests and visitors so you won’t have to pay when you exit. Questions? Call 812/855-0101 from your cell phone if you become lost. Ask for Cindy Stone and she will guide you into campus safely.
