FALL SEMESTER 2010
|
Lecture Format and Activities
The focus of the lectures (TR 10:10 - 11:00 am
in GY126) will be to:
- Explore
evidence of
Earth history provided by rock and fossil records
- Consider critical concepts
and
principles that control geologic processes
- Explain geological phenomena that have shaped changes to
the Earth's environment over geological time
- Emphasize the evolutionary nature of physical, chemical and
biological components within the Earth system
Three different learning activities will be involved:
- In-class question/answer
discussion sessions addressing critical points of understanding through
deduction
- Exploration and interpretation of characteristics of rock
and fossil evidence
of Earth's history illustrated by
Powerpoint presentations
- Reinforcement and assessment of key learning points with
reflective
questions
Lectures sessions will also include:
- Review Sessions scheduled for February 11, March 25, April
29.
- Tests on February 16 and March 30 (GY126, 10:10 am; see Exams)
