Post-doctoral Fellowships in Mineralogy/Petrology/Geochemistry/Astrobiology
The Department of Geological Sciences at Indiana University has immediate openings for several post-doctoral associates in broad areas of the geological sciences. Opportunities exist for research in areas of earth and lunar sediments, planetary exploration (particularly miniaturized X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence instrumentation), planetary mineralogy (especially martian surface mineralogy), sulfur isotope geochemistry applied to deep subsurface nutrient cycles, and astrobiology. The Department of Geological Sciences has outstanding facilities for fundamental and experimental studies of lunar samples and planetary simulants, including new controlled-atmosphere X-ray diffraction, thermoanalytical, and scanning electron microscope laboratories and excellent applied mineralogy, stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry, and biogeochemical facilities. Information on the Department can be found at www.indiana.edu/~geosci/. Applicants should have a geological, astronomical, or biology background, with some interest in lunar, martian or planetary sciences. A Ph.D. degree within the past three years and proficiency in written and spoken English are required. Please contact Dr. David L. Bish ( bish@indiana.edu; phone: 812-855-2039), Dr. Lisa Pratt (prattl@indiana.edu; phone 812-855-9203) or Dr. Abhijit Basu (basu@indiana.edu; 812-855-5581), Chair, Department of Geological Sciences, Indiana University, 1001 E. 10th St., Bloomington, IN 47405 USA.
