Kristin Wood received a MS in Geology from IU, and is now working for Shell.
"My interest in geology evolved as an undergraduate in college. I took geology as an elective class, and realized that this is what I wanted to do.
I had a chance to work with some very highly-regarded geoscientists during my time at IU. One of the things about the department that has been especially helpful during my career was the integrated, earth systems approach to geoscience that was an essential part of the curriculum. The work I do now requires integration of large amounts of information and data from a variety of sources, and I'm glad I gained some experience at IU to help me do that.
I loved Bloomington. It's a great college town. It's relatively small and has a community-oriented atmosphere. You're not overwhelmed and there are lots of thing to do.
With high global energy demand, there are a lot of opportunities now for geoscientists. The income opportunities in the energy sector are quite high -- salaries are quite substantial. Besides, geology is just fun. Geologists, in general, tend to be laid back and the people I've met have been great."
