Program Requirements for Students

Students entering the Geobiology Research Group should have courses in undergraduate paleontology with a laboratory; evolution; biology, choosing from systematic zoology, genetics, or ecology/ecosystems; sedimentology/stratigraphy; geochemistry; and a field geology course. Before graduation, students are expected to write grant proposals to fund field and laboratory research (e.g., Paleontological Society, Sigma Xi, American Museum of Natural History, Geological Society of America, American Association of Petroleum Geologists); submit an abstract for a regional or national GSA, AGU, SEPM, etc. meeting; and give a formal thesis defense.
