    I am a lesbian therapist offering psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and groups, specializing in work with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and their families, depression, anxiety, grief, and personal growth issues. I teach several courses in the IU School of Social Work including “Developmental Issues for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual People”, “Understanding Diversity in a Pluralistic Society”, and am working on developing a course centered on developmental issues for transgender people. I currently work with a number of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender clients, will be starting a therapy group for transgender people, and am comfortable and knowledgeable in addressing issues of identity, transitions, coming out, and dealing with family and with the effects of homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia.     Group Therapy offered:This is a process-oriented therapy group that takes a psychodynamic approach to promote healing in women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse and other forms of trauma. Subjects discussed in this confidential group include family of origin issues, spirituality, emotional intimacy with a sexual partner and others, and working through feelings of shame associated with childhood trauma. Clients are encouraged to use dream material, art, music, creative writing, and journaling as a means of self-exploration.

    Participation is strictly confidential. The degree of sharing in group is up to the individual; no one has to talk when she does not wish to. Unconditional emotional support from group is offered.

    All group participants are screened by Dr. Susan Rautio-Dietz, the group leader. Every group member needs to have an individual therapist. (The frequency of the individual sessions are determined by the client and the individual therapist). The number of group sessions is negotiated between the client and Dr. Rautio-Dietz. A minimum of eight group sessions is recommended.
