Why I created this site

I intend this site to serve as a resource for all those who are interested in, or need information about, one of the nation's most important, controversial, and multi-faceted issues: gay men, lesbians, and related sexual minorities in American politics and law.  I created it the first time I taught my course on gay and lesbian politics at Indiana University. I hope it will be a first point of reference for students and faculty in their teaching, research, and writing; for journalists who need background and current information; as well as for activists and citizens looking for the latest news, resources, and sites for debate and discussion. I try to keep the graphics simple and the content up-to-date, accurate, fair, and comprehensive while selecting what I judge to be the best resources.

How I decide what to include

The focus of this site is politics and law.  There are lots of comprehensive, general-purpose gay sites, indexes, and search engines, all claiming to be the best, largest, and hippest. But I generally find politics and/or law to be only a small, and not especially effective, focus for most of them. This site tries to pull all the best resources in GLBT politics and law together in one place.

This index is selective. I try not to include organizations or sites that appear unprofessional, out-of-date, poorly maintained, or unclear in their focus.  I also try to emphasize sites of national or international interest rather than those limited to particular states or cities.  However, most anything can be found by following the links on this site to other places like Yahoo, or the other recommended collections of links.

I welcome sites from all sides and perspectives of the debates over GLBT issues.

Please suggest additional links or give me feedback

I try to update this site regularly.  I welcome feedback and suggested sites. I'm also eager to know whether this site was helpful to you, and how it could be improved. (As indicated above, I tend not to use suggested sites if they're too far afield from politics and law (e.g. poetry, art commerce) or if they are state/city-specific.
