Arabic instruction of preschool through grade 2 at Monroe County Public Library, 2008-2009
Faculty and professionals at the Center for the Study of the Middle East (CSME) strive to creatively broaden student awareness of Near Eastern societies and cultures. Business, government, and academia increasingly demand specialists who are skilled in the critical languages of the Middle East and who possess expert knowledge of the region’s culture, politics, and history.
Encouraging IU students of Arabic to share their interests with a broader public, while receiving guided training in Arabic instruction, is just one creative measure CSME has taken toward increasing awareness. Most of the students who volunteer to teach Arabic for Bridges are pursuing majors or minors from the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures.
