K-12 and Community Outreach

The primary objective of outreach for the Center for the Study of Global Change is to serve as a resource base on international issues, to meet the needs of K-12 teachers, post-secondary educators, business professionals, government officials, media representatives, and the general public at local, state, and national levels. The Global Center encourages the dissemination of information about and enhancement of relations among the U.S. and other parts of the world, focusing particularly on global and inter-regional issues, problems, and solutions. In support of its NRC mission, the Global Center funds and facilitates workshops, speakers, library acquisitions, visiting scholars, conferences, technological innovation, curriculum development, and graduate fellowships. In addition, the Global Center participates in a wide variety of local, state, regional, and national conferences and gatherings, each time bringing a global perspective to the content and activities.

Capitol Forum Indiana (CFI) — Emphasizing decision-making and civic responsibility for high school students, focusing on U.S. foreign policy
Global Issues Community Discussion Series — A series of community discussions focusing on different global issues and, in particular, how they relate to life in Bloomington, IN
Global Speakers Service (GSS) — Providing speakers to enhance international topics and activities in local schools and communities
Integrating International and Civic Education (IICE) — Developing opportunities for teachers to learn how to use deliberation to better integrate international issues in standards-based classrooms
International Festival of Indiana — Providing an opportunity for Central Indiana students and the public to experience many world cultures without travelling farther than Indianapolis
International Studies In Schools (ISIS) - A Videoconferencing Project — A distance learning program using interactive video technology to connect K-12 schools and community groups across the U.S.
International Studies Summer Institute (ISSI) — A two-week residential institute for teachers exploring diverse global topics through the use of simulations, panels, interactive communication technology connections, and cultural events
Lotus Blossoms Children's Bazaar And Community Bazaar — An educational program nurturing children's curiosity about other cultures by bringing artist-educators into southern-Indiana schools from across America and around the world
Lotus World Music And Art Festival - Indiana University Global Education Pavilion — The festival is an annual four-day extravaganza providing live musical and movement performances by individuals and groups from across the globe; the Pavilion is a venue in which the public can learn to play the instruments and make the music of many cultures
Outstanding International History Award — A special award encouraging students, when examining historical events and issues, to consider the world beyond the borders of the U.S.
