Piper O’Sullivan is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Central Eurasian Studies with a doctoral minor in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures—having received her M.A. in Central Eurasian Studies from Indiana University and B.A. from Mount Holyoke College. Her research interests include literary politics and customary law in Afghanistan and Northwest Pakistan, along with Iranian history and visual culture. She has been the recipient of several Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships to pursue advanced linguistic study of Pashto and Persian and awarded a Critical Language Scholarship in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Prior to graduate school, Piper volunteered in various clinics and shelters in New Delhi and Kolkata, India and Yaroslavl, Russia.
