| For more than a decade, the Center for the Study of Global Change has been dedicated to the creation of a virtual academic global community through the use of interactive videoconferencing. The goal is to connect Indiana University faculty and students with their counterparts and experts abroad in both one-time and extended programs. An IU Mongolian scholar, for example, lectured an undergraduate class on Chinese history at East Tennessee State University and a series of security experts in Australia, Canada, Great Britain, and France presented to and answered student questions throughout a graduate course, "International Security in the 21st Century" at IU Bloomington. IU students have participated in international dialogues with students in Sweden, Russia, and Chile for multiple class sessions or an entire semester and with students in Ghana, The Philippines, and Egypt for one-time discussions of global issues. To encourage IU faculty to integrate such live connections into their courses, the Global Center offers Technology Pilot Project in International Studies Grants.
