Commitment to Academic & Student Development

The core mission of the GPSO—to support the graduate student population and, likewise, the entire student population of IU Bloomington, through academic support, advocacy, and programming—has been more fully actualized in the last two years than any other time in recent history. This has been accomplished through rededicated efforts and better allocation of funding. As evidence of that, the GPSO submits a specialized section on the past 6 and current Academic Years (AYs) of Academic Support funding, which mostly cover the past fiscal years. This kind of support has grown under recent administrations, and even in a year of necessary budget cuts, the current administration’s commitment remains strong and focused.

The above charts detail, the academic support that has become a cornerstone of GPSO. With many of the Executive Committee members continuing to serve this focus will continue. As the GPSO does have this special mission to support the academic development of its graduate students (which pays dividends for undergraduates in the classroom and by generating more research opportunities on campus), we believe that the GPSO has established a strong position unlike that of the other fee-receiving student organizations on campus.
