Words from the Moderator
January 15, 2006
Dear Graduate and Professional Students:
The GPSO is your voice at Indiana University. As your student government, we actively engage the administration to improve our student community.
The GPSO helps build a better student community in two ways:
First, each representative and committee participant works toward real change. For example, we have a new health insurance provider doing such an excellent job that one administrator noted the disappearance of weekly student complaints. This would make us smile, but President Herbert has requested administrators work toward providing us dental insurance. And with dental insurance, we'll be able to smile alongside our fellow students at every public Big Ten university.
Second, the GPSO provides our community with events that bring us together. Fall orientation, happy hours, graduate survival week and even ice skating are just a few events that your fellow students have organized this past semester. We organize grants to fund our research, lectures and coffee talks to broaden our minds, and this spring we can look forward to the annual GPSO Garden party.
The GPSO provides opportunity to participate and take action. Indiana University is experiencing some pretty dramatic changes. Now is the time to let your voice be heard. Come participate. Come act to help our community.
See you soon,
Paul Rohwer
