First Annual New Voices in Academia Conference
As part of the Graduate Student Appreciation Week the GPSO and the Bloomington Libraries organized this past Friday, March 27, 2009 the New Voices in Academia interdisciplinary graduate student conference.
The conference brought together all IUB graduate and professional students to discuss their research, explore ways to obtain funds for travel, and prepare for job interviews. All panels were held in room E174 of the Herman B Wells library (South side of the lobby).
The winners of the Challenges to Change paper competition and of $75 each are:
Jessica Birthisel with "More than Just Dicksmithing Hip Hop and black male heterosexual representations"
Jonathan Atwell with "Rapid evolution of exploratory boldness behaviour following colonisation of a novel urban environment"
Alex Leeman with "Interfaith Marriage in Islam: An Examination of the Legal Theory Behind the Traditional and Reformist Positions"
The GPSO is planning to organize the conference again during the Spring 2010 Graduate Appreciation Weekend.

Challenges to Change Panel Discussions - graduate and professional students who submitted papers for
the 'Challenges to Change' paper competition will discuss their work. All interested students are invited to participate in the discussion.
