SPEA Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant

The SPEA Alumni Relations Graduate Assistant position is a minimum of 10 hours per week (15 hours maximum) and the pay is $13 per hour. Applicants must be full time SPEA students and can be first year or continuing (graduating May 2013 or later).

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will support alumni relations and annual giving for SPEA. The GA will assist with event planning and promoting (researching venues, coordinating with vendors, promoting on Facebook and Linked In), alumni programing and publications (preparing materials for board meetings, itineraries for alumni campus visits, alumni e-newsletters, etc.), and alumni database management (updating records with new contact information and documenting volunteer involvement). In addition, the GA will help prioritize leadership annual giving prospects and alumni volunteers as well as implement engagement and stewardship strategies.

Skill set preferred: applicants for this position must be organized, detail-oriented and have strong written communication skills. Experience with event planning or public relations/communications is preferred.  The GA will be trained on using IU’s alumni/donor database and will be trusted with confidential information.

In this role, the GA will contribute to the missions of SPEA, IU Alumni Association and IU Foundation. (S)he will contribute to alumni engagement for the benefit of current students (e.g. networking events, mentoring, internship leads). By creating opportunities for meaningful alumni involvement, the Office of Alumni Relations cultivates lifelong connections to SPEA in terms of alumni volunteerism and philanthropic support.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to the Masters Program Office (MPO) at speampo@indiana.edu by Monday, August 20, 2012; 5:00pm. Late submissions will not be accepted. Submissions will be screened by the MPO and qualified and eligible candidates will be forwarded to SPEA’s Alumni Relations & Development function for final review before interview and selection. The position will be paid hourly ($13.00) for up to 15 hours of work a week. A student who already has an assistantship (TA/GA) may apply as long as they understand they must forfeit their current assignment if selected for the position.
