The Office of Admissions is a department under the Office of Enrollment Services and the front-facing department and portal to the

public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. The Office of Admissions is responsible for

recruiting the freshman class each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions procedure, providing

accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards and marketing Indiana University Bloomington.

Position Description:

Admissions Counselor; Develop, coordinate, implement, and participate in recruitment efforts and admissions-related initiatives that serve

to advance the undergraduate enrollment goals of the Indiana University Bloomington campus. Represent IUB at on-campus recruiting

events and off-site visit programs. Actively collaborate with campus partners. Coordinate and conduct daily information sessions and

campus tours for prospective students and their families; meet individually as needed. Assist the Admissions Marketing Team with the

implementation and management of all Admissions social media applications and ensure their integration with other communication

channels utilized by the office: website, print, and email. Assist with the development and implementation of marketing campaigns and

activities targeting prospective and admitted students that are designed to recruit and enroll each year’s incoming class.

Responsibilities:

a. Students will interact with prospective college students and their families through individual and group counseling

appointments/sessions, both on and off-campus.

i. Individual Student & Family Appointments/Counseling

ii. Group Presentations/Counseling/Workshops

iii. Individual Phone, Email, IM & Skype Counseling

iv. Special Group Presentations for visiting High Schools

v. High School Visits & College Fairs

b. Assist the Marketing Team with social media applications, website management, print and email communications.

i. Develop content for multiple social media platforms, write posts/tweets, and take photos; maintain weekly and monthly

content calendars; ensure social media activities are integrated with and promote office activities related to admission and

enrollment.

ii. Monitor Admissions social media and post and tweet on a daily basis (including weekends); answer questions from students and

parents within hours of their posting/tweeting.

iii. Assist with campaigns by developing and integrating all aspects of the social media component.

iv. Determine social media needs related to events and ensure these needs are met.

v. Monitor third party social media sites such as CollegeConfidential and respond as needed.

vi. Assist with other marketing and communications activities such as writing and developing emails, updating the website,

developing print pieces, etc.

c. Conduct research on best practices and trends within the field of admission and/or college counseling to be presented to admission

staff during staff meetings, retreats, and workshops.

Qualifications:

Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree and be currently enrolled in or received admission to an Indiana University Graduate Program on

the Bloomington campus. Student should be organized, responsible, and dependable and have the ability to work independently; possess

analytical problem solving and decision making skills; and be champion for IU and have a positive enthusiastic attitude toward their IU

experience.

Experience launching and utilizing social media applications such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram on a daily basis is required;

experience with other applications such as Vine, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc. is preferred. Strong writing and editing skills are required.

Photography and Photoshop experience preferred. Knowledge and proficiency of Dreamweaver and/or HTML programming preferred.

Compensation:

Standard GA stipend, up to 90% fee remission, and health insurance. All applicants are asked to apply for Federal Work-Study. Offers

contingent upon approval.

Number of Assistantships Available for Fall 2014: 1 – 10 month appointment
