Full-time Associateships will be awarded on a competitive basis in 2013 for research in the fields of chemistry; earth, atmospheric and space sciences; engineering, applied sciences and computer science; life and medical sciences; mathematics; and physics.  Many of the laboratories are open to both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals.

Awards are made for one or two years, renewable for a maximum of three years; senior applicants who have held the doctorate at least five years maybe receive awards for shorter periods.  Annual stipends for recent Ph.D. recipients for the 2013 program year range from $42,000 to $80,000 depending upon the sponsoring laboratory, and are appropriately higher for senior award recipients.  Graduate entry level stipends begin at $30,000.

Financial support is provided for allowable relocation expenses and for limited professional travel during the duration of the award.  The host laboratory provides facilities, support services, necessary equipment, and travel necessary for the conduct of the approved research program.

This event is designed to help IU’s Fulbright-Hays applicants improve their proposals through a structured peer-review format workshop.

HOW:

Bring two copies of your most recent Fulbright-Hays proposal draft, read about and comment on some fascinating research, and leave with two sets of peer feedback. GGC staff will spend about fifteen minutes giving participants a brief overview of how to critique a proposal. Then we will pair participants up and issue comment forms, so feedback falls into similar categories—this will make your revisions easier. From there, we turn things over to you as you read and comment on your partner’s proposal. Consultants will be available to address participant questions. Discussion of comments and revisions will follow. The workshop will take place in two rounds, with a short break in between. The schedule looks something like this:

10:00-10:15—kickoff, workshop orientation

10:15-11:00—proposal review

11:00-11:30—discussion of comments

11:30-11:45—Break (there’s a café downstairs)

11:45-1:30—lather, rinse, and repeat round 1.

University Human Resources is seeking a Graduate Assistant to conduct a two year research and analysis project related to evaluating and improving the level of financial literacy of IU’s graduate students.

This project is funded by the TIAA-CREF Institute and the target audience would be approximately 8,000 graduate students across Indiana University. Suggested research will involve measuring and analyzing financial literacy results from education as well as the impact of framing the concept of lifetime savings for a sample of the group. This project may include a cross-disciplinary approach with TIAA-CREF Institute fellows from other Institutions including Ohio State University.

Successful candidates will have previous project management experience; possess strong organizational skills; and have previous experience with databases such as Excel or Access. Applicants should have previous survey experience; understanding of basic research design experience; and currently pursuing a graduate degree at Indiana University. The expectation is that this position will work 15-20 hours per week; remuneration includes a $1,400 monthly stipend ($14,000 annual equivalent over 10 months) and
health insurance. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of University Human Resources and the University Director, Retirement Programs.

The East-West Center invites graduate students from around the world to submit papers for the 13th Annual International Graduate Student Conference (IGSC) on the Asia Pacific region, taking place in Honolulu,  Hawai‘i, USA from February 13-15, 2014.

The Conference will provide an opportunity to share interdisciplinary perspectives formally, through presenting papers and attending other panel presentations, and informally in the warm and encouraging environment of the East-West Center in Hawai‘i. Participation in the 2013 conference had broad representation with 82 graduate students from 42 universities and 24 countries and territories. We look forward to continued representation from across the U.S. and Asia Pacific region in 2014.

We will accept abstracts May 1 – August 30, 2013.

Abstracts up to a maximum of 500 words in length of proposed papers are invited from intending participants at this time. Submissions are encouraged from the array of disciplines focusing on the region.

A limited number of merit-based travel grants, generally $100 to $200 (up to a maximum of $500), will be available.

The Department of Education opened the Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) competition for FY 2013. Application deadline is June 3, 2013 at 4:30pm.

-          Fulbright Hays DDRA awards enable recipients to conduct research in other countries for periods of six to 12 months beginning on Oct. 1, 2013.

-          Eligible research projects will focus on world regions outside of Western Europe.

Intern will review current IUAP training materials for compliance with US Dept of Labor Employment & Training Administration standards and IU requirements. Intern will then research new learning technologies that are effective and engaging. Based on research, intern will recommend and then help develop updated curriculum for all IUAP programs: Carpentry, Electric, Plumbing, Heat & Refrigeration, Sheet Metal and Masonry.

Candidates need excellent research skills and oral/written communication skills. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment and decision making skills. Educational background in education, organizational development or human resources preferred. The Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research is accepting applications from qualified graduate students (doctoral students preferred) to work as a graduate assistant with various projects at the Center including the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE), the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE), the College Student Experiences Questionnaire (CSEQ), the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA), and outreach and research projects within the NSSE Institute. The Center is a leading nationally-recognized research unit studying quality in postsecondary education, college student learning and development, and effective educational practice. The Center houses two of the largest databases on undergraduate college students in the United States, and also has major initiatives for service and outreach to higher education institutions. The Center provides a range of learning experiences for doctoral students in the higher education program. This position is available beginning July 2013 through July 2014.

Responsibilities

Graduate assistants serve as Project Associates (PAs) with one or more projects in the Center. Specific responsibilities are dependent on the needs of the project, but most PAs have client service responsibilities, and manage project logistics, activities and timelines. In this capacity, PAs are the main point of contact for institutions participating in survey research conducted by CPR. In addition, PAs may assist in various stages of report production and data management, and may participate and/or present at professional meetings and conferences. Additional responsibilities may include data collection and analysis, survey development, marketing and promotions, and additional client services.

Qualifications

Preferred applicants should be enrolled in a doctoral program in the School of Education. Master’s candidates with relevant experience may be considered. Experience in higher education administration, assessment, project management, research, excellent communication and organizational skills are desired. Quantitative or qualitative research skills are highly desired but not essential. Interest in and knowledge of higher education and college students is especially important.

Schedule

Compensation: 12-month stipend (July 1 to June 30) of about $17,000 plus 30 credit hours tuition remission, and student health insurance included (health insurance coverage begins at the start of the corresponding academic term). The stipend will be prorated to reflect the start date of the appointment.

Job opportunity at the East Asian Studies Center (EASC)

The East Asian Studies Center now has an outreach assistant position available for May-August this summer. The outreach assistant will assist with our professional development programs for K-12 teachers, as well as outreach to K-12 students and the general public. The successful candidate must commit to working 20 hours per week from the beginning of May through August. This position is a temporary position, with the possibility to continue in academic year 2013-14. This position doesn’t carry tuition remission. The pay is $14.25 per hour.

–Assists the EASC Outreach Coordinator with East Asia-related outreach activities, primarily for K-12 educators and the general public

–Manages and maintains program participants’ files
