The Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR), http://www.iu.edu/~vpr/, seeks an IU Graduate Student interested in an hourly position as a Communications Specialist; the position may lead to a Graduate Assistantship in the next academic year.
The Communications Specialist will assist the Executive Director for Research Communications in broadly communicating and promoting IU’s research enterprise, programs and success. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of social media activities, postings and responses; review and editing of IU News Room press releases; identification, compilation and creation of distribution lists for internal and external audiences; review and distribution of daily news round-ups to appropriate recipients; and specially assigned projects.
Hours are during regular business hours, M-F, between 8:00 and 5:00; the position will require approximately 20 hours per week and is available immediately.
The successful candidate will be an enrolled IU Graduate Student with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, media, public affairs, marketing, communications or related discipline; must have strong written, visual and oral communications skills; familiarity with a wide range of current communications tools and media, and a willingness to embrace new technology.
Successful candidates will have the ability to work effectively as part of a team towards a common outcome; have the ability to learn quickly and take responsibility for parts of a project; have a strong deadline orientation with the ability to handle multiple projects at once; and an excellent attention to details.
