Description: Work as a part of a team to provide individual and group integrated academic and career advising to undergraduate University College students within a specific cluster of majors. Collaborate with this team to develop resources, programs, and events for students within the cluster. Work with faculty, staff, and mentors to provide support to at-risk students. Collaborate with Summer Bridge and First Year Seminar instructional teams to provide in-class presentations and workshops. Mentor one student on academic probation through STAR (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) Program.
Responsibilities: Advise and guide approximately 150 students through student development-based processes to clarify major declaration, plans of study, admission to a degree-granting school of choice, and career planning. Prepare and maintain student records to inform advising for academic progress, career planning, and resource referrals. Collaborate with team in development and implementation of policies, procedures, programs, events, and resources related to student success. Utilize university systems to maintain communication with students, staff, and faculty. One GA position is split 50/50 between Student Success Advising and as a Coordinator for STAR students returning to IUPUI after being academically dismissed. All GAs work 20 hours per week in an office setting.
Qualifications: Interest working in academic advising, career development, first-year experience, first-year seminars, and/or mentoring programs. Interest in working with a diverse student population in a thriving urban setting. Skills needed include excellent verbal and written communication, attention to detail, teamwork, and professionalism.
Compensation: Ten-month stipend of $9,750 (August-May), nine credit hours of in-state tuition per semester, and student health insurance.
