As a doctoral student AND someone who struggles with maintaining a fitness routine, one of the things that I love about IU is the IU Recreational Sports programs.
Each week, there are more than 50 classes that are free to all students who pay the semester’s recreation fee. Want to try Zumba? There are 5 classes each week. Need to work on your Core? Try the 30-minute Core class that is offered 6 times a week. Interested in water aerobics? They have that too.
If you aren’t the group exercise type, you can visit one of the two gyms on campus and use the track, free weights, weight machines, and MANY cardio fitness machines. There are also two pools. You can also participate in the intramural sports program – flag football, futsal, tennis, bags, basketball, battleship, dodgeball, ultimate Frisbee, table tennis, wallyball, racquetball, innertube water polo, golf, soccer, and quidditch.
There are other classes that are offered for an additional fee. These include: CycleFit, Pilates, Yoga, and CircuitStrength.
There is definitely something for everyone. Check out the offerings for yourself: http://www.iurecsports.org/
