Introducing Students to IU

Students are recommended to the Groups program by their high school counselors or community agency personnel.   A recommendation is the only way to gain admittance to the program.  Groups students are accepted for conditional enrollment at IU in January.  This early date gives the staff the spring and summer months to introduce both students and their families to the university through a series of three mandatory programs they are:

Area Visits:
First the Groups staff travels to communities throughout the state of Indiana to explain the program,  its expectations and requirements, and to discuss financial aid options.

Campus Visit:
Groups students and their families then visit Bloomington for a day of exploration, testing, and learning.

Summer Experience:
Finally, students attend the Summer Experience Program, a six-week session of workshop-style courses in writing, reading and reasoning, and math. They live in the residence halls, become familiar with the campus culture, and are introduced to the various resources available to help them succeed at IUB.
