Anatomy, Botany, Geology is an exhibition that features paintings of Professor Sklarski’s forty years of representational work from the figure, plant life, and geology. Professor Sklarski, an instrumental figure in Indiana University’s Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts painting program, describes her recent work as “complex compositions of plants and animals done from a close, minute study of found specimens”. Professor Sklarski notes “A retrospective exhibition is like a crime scene. There are many clues and many questions. My retrospective is a privileged opportunity to highlight what are the deepest, most challenging questions I have lived with. From science to poetic narrative, I have tried to be fearless in my study and true to my natural curiosity.” Her curiosity and passion for observational painting have enabled her to work en plein-air throughout the world.

Bonnie Sklarski, Professor Emerita, joined the faculty at Indiana University in 1970. She is the recipient of the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching for developing the Anatomy for the Artist course, which she taught for 30 years.

Professor Sklarski has an extensive exhibition record and a reputation in New York City and Philadelphia. As an early member of the figurative movement of the 60's and 70's, she was a part of accrediting the new New York Academy of Art in 1988. Currently, Professor Sklarski is completing a series of portraits of distinguished Indiana Alumni.
