Collecting Student and Faculty Art
The School of Fine Arts (SoFA) Gallery at Indiana University is proud to present Collecting Student and Faculty Art, a seminar in conjunction with the Friends of Art Collectors Group. This event will be led by Betsy Stirratt, Director of the SoFA Gallery, and Nan Brewer, the Lucienne M. Glaubinger Curator of Works on Paper at the IU Art Museum. This seminar will take place Wednesday, January 13 from 5:00 -6:30 pm in the SoFA Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.
Collecting Student and Faculty Art, open to all interested collectors, will address issues related to purchasing student and faculty art. Topics to be covered include the ethics of collecting student art, pricing structures and value of art made by students, tracking students’ careers after they graduate and collecting strategies for art made by faculty. In addition a local collector will speak about his experiences identifying and purchasing art locally. This event precedes the spring season of student shows in the SoFA Gallery and IU Art Museum, as well as The Triennial 2010: Faculty Artists from IU's Hope School of Fine Arts, on view at the IU Art Museum, January 23- March 7.
The FOA Collectors group provides an educational forum to engage in activities related to beginning and maintaining collections of fine art and objects from all time periods. Educational activities include lectures and workshops, collection visits, trips, and other activities to promote dialogue in the community related to collecting, and collection building, disposition of collections, and preservation.
