Reception: INHABIT Reception
February 19, 2010 (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM)
Location: SoFA Gallery
The School of Fine Arts (SoFA) Gallery at Indiana University is proud to present INHABIT a multi-disciplinary exhibition by 6 regional artists. This exhibition will open Tuesday, February 16 and continue through Friday, March 12, 2010. The Opening Reception will be Friday, February 19, 7:00-9:00 pm in the SoFA Gallery. There will be a catalog of the exhibition available for purchase. All events are free and open to the public.
The exhibition features two site-specific installations, one by Kathyrn Armstrong, the other by Elizabeth Gerdeman, sculpture from Stephen Cartwright, video and photography by Jessica Westbrook, paintings by Jieun Shin, and works by Lauren Zoll. The artists participating in INHABIT are exploring the questions: What does it mean to inhabit? What role does Place have in this shrinking world? Is it the anchor of cultural identity? Is it a simple fact of location? By revealing the physical, psychological or cultural aspects of location each artist is considering the place of the individual in the world. Their works expose the emotional foundation of our understanding of Environment.
Whether it is in an attempt to make an indelible mark on their surroundings, to record their presence in it, or to acknowledge the fleeting nature of experience in the constantly changing world, the works in INHABIT reveal the transitory nature of man’s relationship to the world around him.
