The painting department works to maintain a sense of painting as a language that simultaneously upholds tradition and seeks innovation. Painting from observation, formal structure, narrative content, and painting as a means of individual expression are qualities that are valued with in the program. Students within the painting program work both figuratively and abstractly. The BFA Painting Exhibition will feature observational paintings, landscapes, figurative paintings, and works in new, experimental mediums. Students are given the opportunity to participate in exhibition planning and installation of their artwork.
