The School of Fine Arts (SoFA) Gallery at Indiana University is pleased to announce The Museum of Broken Relationships. This exhibition will open Friday, May 28 and continue through Saturday, June 19, 2010. There will be a Gallery Talk given by the creators of the Museum of Broken Relationships Saturday, May 29, at 3:00 pm in the SoFA Gallery. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, May 28, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the School of Fine Arts Gallery. All events are free and open to the public.

The Museum of Broken Relationships, a two-part traveling exhibition dedicated to broken hearts, was founded in Croatia by Olinka Vištica and Drazen Grubišić. This exhibition is an art concept which gives assumption that objects holds memories and emotions, and through its presentation creates a space of secure memory or protected remembrance. The exhibition consists of the original exhibition from Croatia and the locally organized Bloomington exhibition Lori Canada and Filiz Cicek worked together with the SoFA Gallery for the local component of the exhibition.

The Museum offers individuals the chance to overcome their emotional collapse through creation by contributing to the Museum's collection. The individual gets rid of controversial objects, the triggers of undesirable emotions, by turning them into museum exhibits, and thereby participating in the creation of a preserved collective emotional history. The museum has everything from romantic and touching letters to different gifts given to lovers. Every single object on display is anonymous and has a description / story related to the relationship that was behind. Betsy Stirratt, Director of the SoFA Gallery, notes “This exhibit of artifacts from The Museum of Broken Relationships allows for the SoFA Gallery and the Bloomington community to participate in this international project.” For more information about this project please visit
