Performance: New Music at the SoFA Gallery

This performance in the SoFA Gallery will feature works by guest composer Gabriela Ortiz (www.gabrielaortiz.com ) and also those by IU student composers.

Ortiz is currently in residence in Bloomington as a Fulbright Senior
Scholar, and is working on a large-scale project with the IU Jacobs School of Music Contemporary Vocal Ensemble. She has received many prestigious honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship, and her music has been performed by soloists and orchestras around the world, such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Kronos Quartet, Dawn Upshaw and the Kroumata Percussion Ensemble.

This performance will present a unique union of music and art, as the JSoM musicians will perform musical works inspired by art. The performing ensembles will be stationed in different locations within the gallery, allowing the audience members to appreciate the entire art exhibit sequentially. The hour-long program presents a diverse selection of music, including world premieres.
