The Kinsey Institute 2011 Juried Art Show

Reception: The Kinsey Institute 2011 Juried Art Show
May 20, 2011 (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
Location: SoFA Gallery

The School of Fine Arts (SoFA) Gallery at Indiana University is pleased to announce The Kinsey Institute 2011 Juried Art Show. This exhibition will open Friday, May 20 and continue through Saturday, July 30, 2011. An opening reception for the 2011 Juried Art Show will be held on Friday, May 20, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the School of Fine Arts Gallery. All events are free and open to the public.

This contemporary art exhibition features paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, wearable art, metalwork, books, sculpture, fiber art, and video installations by a mix of local, national, and international artists. The artworks explore themes related to sex, gender, eroticism, reproduction, sexuality, romantic relationships, the politics of sex and gender, and the human figure. The jurors for the 2011 competition were Christopher Bedford, Chief Curator of the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University, Betsy Stirratt, Director of the SoFA Gallery, and Garry Milius, Associate Curator at The Kinsey Institute.

Although this is the sixth annual Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show, the exhibition is marking its third year with the SoFA Gallery. “The Kinsey Institute is so pleased to have this opportunity to collaborate with the SoFA Gallery each year,” says Garry Milius, “as it enables us to include so many more artists in our exhibition.”

Two awards will be given to artists in the exhibit, a $300 cash prize for “Best in Show”, selected by the jurors, and a $200 award for Gallery Visitor’s Choice, which will be voted on by visitors at the reception.
