Short bio for Prof. Wright

I teach American politics.  My specialties are public opinion, elections and state politics.  This Fall I am teaching Introduction to American Politics and,  Y200 Election 2000 which is a general purpose undergraduate introduction to U.S. elections in the year 2000.   I enjoy teaching and this year I am again serving on the College of Arts and Sciences' Committee for Undergraduate Education.  I will appreciate any suggestions  you might have about university curriculum policies.
J in provence2.jpg (48109 bytes) I've taught at IU since 1981 and I am married to Prof. Christine Barbour.  We live in the country with our five dogs. We  like dogs--obviously--but also to travel, cook and garden.  And I like to golf.

Southern California is where I was

born and raised and where I received a B.A. and an M.A. in Political Science (Cal-State, Fullerton and UC-Santa Barbara).  From there I went  to the University of North Carolina for my Ph.D. (the great class of '73).  I have two daughters, one is a landscape architect and lives in Connecticut and the other is a geologist--and an IU graduate--and she now live in Ithaca, NY where her husband is in graduate school.

There is more academic stuff as well as information on my research on my home page.
