Y200

Y200 `Election 2006' is an introduction to voting, campaigns, and governing in America with a special emphasis on the 2006 congressional elections. Several questions will guide us through the course: How do elections matter? Who wins and why?  And what difference does it make for the quality of governing in the U.S.? Through the readings, exercises, discussion and group work of this class, you will

  • Learn about the character of the American electoral arena and how we got here.
  • Learn about the rules for gaining the nomination and then winning the general election -- and how these rules influence and account for the strange spectacle of American national elections.
  • Increase your knowledge of campaign strategy and voting behavior in state and congressionall elections
  • Increase your knowledge of the role of elections in U.S. politics

Look down the index on the left to see links to the more detailed information about the class, the instructor, the syllabus and other sources that will be useful in the class.
