Addressing the Need

VolunteersThe mission of Habitat for Humanity has always been to work with families to eliminate substandard housing. There is a real need, both nationally and locally, that can easily be identified.

According to STATS Indiana, a web-based information service of the state of Indiana and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, developed and maintained by the Indiana Business Research Center at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, Monroe County's poverty rate is the 8th highest in the state of Indiana. It is an all too real reminder of the hardships so many people face, even here in Bloomington.

Substandard housing is an unfortunate reality for many families who tirelessly work to support themselves and their families. Together with Monroe County Habitat for Humanity, the IU chapter seeks to better the community by eliminating substandard housing in Bloomington. Those who participate in our chapter recognize the adversities hard-working people face and are responsive to the call to action.
