04-13
American Early Music Pioneers
(Harmonia American Series, 15)
This week: A look at some of the American early music artists who pioneered the early music movement of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. We'll hear music of Noah Greenberg's New York Pro Musica, Russell Oberlin, The Boston Camerata, the Waverly Consort, and the Early Music Quartet (Studio der fruehen Musik.) The program includes rare recordings by Pro Musica, Oberlin, and the Studio; a brief commentary from Noah Greenberg's biographer, James Gollin; and excerpts from archival interviews with Sterling Jones of the Studio der fruehen Musik, and the late Thomas Binkley, who directed the Studio. (NOTE: these are different interview segments from the ones on American Series #6, "American Medieval #1.)
