As part of its on-going commitment to promoting the harp, the USA IHC sponsors a Composition Contest.

In 2006, composers were invited to submit an original composition for solo harp commemorating the work of renowned Indiana author and naturalist, Gene Stratton-Porter. The compositions were to reflect some aspect of her life, her philosophy and writings, or of the Limberlost wetlands of northern Indiana area about which she wrote. The 2006 winning composition entitled Huan, by composer Chia-yu Hsu of Taiwan and Durham, NC, USA was announced on July 1, 2006. Published by Lyon & Healy West, Huan will be a stage three performance requirement at the 2007 USA International Harp Competition.
