Fees & Payments
IU Health Fee
The IU Health Fee entitles you to affordable medical care and other services. IU students who meet the criteria below automatically pay the IU Health Fee each semester:
- Spring and fall semesters: Registered for more than three credit hours
- Summer semester: Registered for six or more credit hours
If you are registered for fewer credit hours, you may voluntarily pay the IU Health Fee up to two weeks after the start of the semester. It will not apply retroactively to any previous IU Health Center charges.
Care for IU students, their spouses or domestic partners, and their children aged 12 and older is also provided on a fee-for-service basis.
IU Health Center is not affiliated with Indiana University Health, its hospitals, urgent care clinics, or physicians. Your IU Health Fee benefits will not cover treatment you receive through Indiana University Health.

- Other services
The average IU Health Center cost per visit, excluding prescriptions, is less than $50.
To keep costs low, the IU Health Center does not bill health insurers directly. With 42,000 students in 50 states and more than 165 countries, managing that process would be cost-prohibitive. However, many IU Health Center charges are covered by the typical health insurance plan. After your visit, you can submit your charges to your insurer for reimbursement. Just ask for a copy of your itemized receipt when you pay.
Payment can be made via cash, credit card, or check at the time of service. Students may also have their charges transferred through the Bursar’s Office. No matter how you choose to pay, you will need to check out at one of the four cashier stations on the second floor before you leave.
Health Insurance Reimbursement
To keep costs low for students, the IU Health Center does not handle the processing of health insurance claims.
If you have health insurance coverage, any costs not covered by the IU Health Fee may be eligible for reimbursement. You can get a copy of your itemized bill when you check out and submit it to your health insurance company.
