What is Health & Wellness Education?      top

Health & Wellness Education provides health education resources, services and programs to students, their spouses, dependents (12 and over), and to Indiana University employees. Services are offered at the Indiana University Health Center and to students in residence halls, Greek houses, clubs, organizations, and academic classes. Click here to request a program. Many Health & Wellness services are available free to students who have paid the Health Center fee. The following information will increase your awareness of Health & Wellness services.

Where is Health & Wellness Education located?      top

Health & Wellness Education is located on the Fourth Floor of the IU Health Center, 600 North Jordan (corner of 10th and Jordan Avenue). The hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Ask a Professional Health Educator
Call (812) 855-7338 if you would like a confidential consultation with a health educator about a question, concern or referral. You can also interview a Health Educator for a class paper or project. Educators will assist you by phone or in person. Call for an appointment.

What individualized health services and classes are available through Health & Wellness Education?       top
  • Fitness Assessment & Consultation. The fitness test is a fitness appraisal including: body fat measurement, flexibility, muscle strength, blood pressure and the determination of cardiovascular health (oxygen uptake via a sub-maximal stress test). Participants receive their test results and an exercise prescription from our fitness specialist. FREE to eligible students. Appointment needed, (812) 855-7338.

  • Confidential, individual appointments with a registered dietitian can help students with a variety of nutrition and dieting concerns including: special needs diets, weight gain, loss or maintenance, vegetarian diets, eating disorders. FREE to eligible students. Appointment needed, (812) 855-7338.

  • Weight Control Classes. Several weight control classes are offered Fall and Spring semester. Each class is led by a registered dietitian and consists of multiple sessions. The food exchange program, food diaries, and information on nutrition, exercise and behavior modification is included. Students can pick the weight control class that fits their needs and schedule.   • Cholesterol Testing. This laboratory test reports levels of total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. A registered dietitian explains the results and gives instructions on how to lower dietary cholesterol and fats. Call (812)855-7338 for cost and scheduling.

  • Smoking Cessation. Individual consultations are available to assist students in stopping smoking and remaining a non-smoker. FREE! Call for an appointment - (812) 855-7338.

  • Birth Control & GYN Information. All birth control methods are reviewed with a health educator. The female gynecological exam is also reviewed. This information is provided to persons wanting to begin a birth control method, to change methods or to persons who want to become informed about the available methods. FREE!   • Massage Therapy. Schedule a 45 minute massage with a certified massage therapist. The massage therapist employs a variety of techniques to decrease muscle tension and increase flexibility, resulting in a feeling of well-being. Call (812) 855-7338 for price information and an appointment.

  • Sexual Issues, Safer Sex, Birth Control & GYN Exam Information Questions about sex, birth control, STD's and more. All information is provided by certified sexuality educators. Individual, confidential and up to date information. Call for an appointment, (812) 855-7338.
