Position Description

The Dean of the Hutton Honors College is responsible for providing vision and leadership, establishing goals and objectives for all aspects of the Hutton Honors College mission, supervising and coordinating the work of the staff, planning and constructing the budget, coordinating curricular development, recruiting faculty to teach Hutton Honors College courses and serve on Hutton Honors College committees, working with the offices of Admissions and of Enrollment Management to set Hutton Honors College admission standards and practices, undertaking fund-raising and alumni relations, and representing Hutton Honors College on and off the Bloomington campus.

The Dean also works with other IU scholarship-granting units and with the honors programs of departments and schools to enhance opportunities for academic excellence across the campus, facilitates the development of new programs related to Hutton Honors College mission, meets with Hutton Honors College students on a frequent basis, teaches Hutton Honors College courses, and executes other functions as the Provost might require.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be a tenured member of the IU Bloomington faculty, must have a commitment to excellence in honors education at a public university, and must have a vision of the role of the Hutton Honors College, as well as the following critical characteristics:

  • an open, inclusive, and collaborative leadership style
  • an ability to inspire and provide leadership to staff and faculty
  • administrative experience at the departmental level or higher
  • breadth of intellectual interests and ability to work with people in the full range of academic fields at IU
  • a record of accomplishment in teaching at the undergraduate level
