Site Development Plans
This new website is still under development. Here are some of the plans we have. Please email us any recommendations you may have.
1. Layout and Design
Members of the steering committee are examining possible logos for the society. The logo’s fonts and colors will be used to create a unique layout and design for this site and for the newsletter. The logo will also be used on the society’s letterhead.
2. Online Bibliography of History SoTL Scholarship
We are awaiting the release of a server-side version of the Zotero citation management software. This will allow all members of the society to interactively contribute to and search in a collectively maintained bibliography of relevant scholarship–effectively creating, over time, a collectively maintained historiographical essay. Individual copies of the software that run in the user’s Firefox 2.0 browser are available at the Zotero website.
3. Navigation
When the newsletter and bibliography features are in place we are planning several navigational enhancements. We are exploring concept maps and visual interfaces to help users find relevant scholarship, current questions.
4. Content, Content, Content
• Names of founding members
• People who willing to serve as external reviewers for journals, publishing houses, or tenure and promotion committees or to give talks on specific aspects on aspects of SoTL.
• A list of historians working in the field with some indication of the kinds of problems they are interested in.
• Queries about topics on which you would like responses from other readers – e.g. bibliography questions on a particular topic, methodological quandaries, ethical dilemmas, search for colleagues for panels or research projects, etc.
• Comments on bibliographical items – we hope that readers will add short comments on books or articles that they find particularly useful or objectionable or which they just want to want to bring to the attention of other historians.
• Short reviews of books and articles of particular interest
• Announcements of relevant conferences or publishing opportunities
• A list of “corresponding members” – These are just readers who pledge to submit something to the web site every six months
