Please note that you may apply electronically to the department via our online application.
Deadline: December 15 (domestic), November 15 (international)
Please note we cannot process your application until all forms, statements, and documents mentioned below are received. All application materials must be received by December 15 (domestic), November 15 (international) or your file will be postponed until the following deadline. We will not make any exceptions to this rule.
Note: December 15 (domestic), November 15 (international) is the final application deadline for all materials and forms. Although the deadline stipulated by College of Arts and Sciences is January 15 (domestic), December 2 (international), The Department of History states December 15 (domestic), November 15 (international) as the application deadline.
Your application file should consist of the following:
- Application form for Graduate School Admission, Fellowship, and Assistantship
- Residence Classification form—included in domestic application forms
- Application fee ($50)
- Statement of Purpose—a focused statement on professional interests and goals
- 3 Letters of Recommendation
- Writing Sample—e.g. term paper, thesis, published articles, or any other piece of written work that indicates applicant’s ability to communicate well in non-fiction prose
- One original transcript from each of all previous college/university work (whether or not a degree was earned)
- Original GRE test scores—no more than 5 years old. For electronic scores, the codes are “1324” for Indiana University and “2799” for the Department of History
