Cultural History
History PhD students may pursue a dual concentration in both Cultural History and a regional / chronological field (hereafter "time / place field") of their choice. Taking advantage of Indiana University's strong concentration of cultural historians across geographical and temporal boundaries, this program is designed to equip students with a wide-ranging, sophisticated understanding of the claims made by Cultural History, and also to train them to write about topics in the field in a critical and rigorous manner. Though the dual concentration approach is strongly encouraged, combining a major in another field with a Cultural History minor is another option.
