Bloomington Endowment Campaign
There are many gift opportunities that exist within the Endowment
Campaign for the IU School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Most methods of giving offer distinct advantages for donors in tax planning.
By exploring all giving possibilities, a donor often can make a larger
gift than previously thought possible. The School of HPER will be pursuing
gifts that qualify for Indiana University matching programs offered for
gifts of endowed chairs and professorships.

The Critical Usefulness of Endowment Gifts
In an effort to insure the School's quality and continuing access for its students, HPER has embarked on a major campaign to add $4 million to the School's endowment. When this campaign is completed, it will create a permanent resource of private funds to supplement state appropriations, tuition income, and research support. The Campaign has five major objectives:
HPER seeks this support in order to expand the need- and merit-based
financial aid it can provide top undergraduates to recruit and retain the
best and most capable students. In the last six years, the loan portion
of undergraduate financial support has jumped from 49 percent to 70 percent
on average. Currently, the School has no endowed scholarships which pay
full tuition for an undergraduate student.
Back
Graduate students are the life force of academia and the mainstay
of the future. The competition for these students among top-rank institutions
is intense, and decisions are often based on available financial aid. The
School of HPER currently has no fully funded graduate fellowships.
Back
Committed faculty are at the heart of instruction and research
at HPER. They carry forward the tradition of high-quality teaching and
research that has characterized the School for half a century. The School
of HPER currently has three endowed professorships and one endowed chair
established during the campaign and one endowed chair established prior
to the campaign.
Back
New endowments are needed for the School's library in order to
expand the purchase and preservation of books, journals and the rich electronic
resources so vital to the School's ongoing performance. The School currently
has one endowed collection to support its library and its library staff.
Back
Endowments created for the School of HPER can provide funding
for programs such as the Hilltop Garden and Nature Center, Bradford Woods
and the Division of Recreational Sports. The School currently has no such
endowment funds.
