Indiana University’s underwater archaeologists attracted international attention with the discovery of Captain Kidd’s shipwreck. Now we are racing against time to preserve this amazing historical legacy and the ecosystem it inhabits before both are destroyed by looters and commercial treasure-hunters.

Our goals are to:
- Preserve and conserve cultural artifacts
- Preserve the reef ecosystem associated with the shipwreck site
- Monitor reefs, vital to tourism
- Develop eco-tourism of marineprotected parks
- Train Dominican and Caribbean
students to preserve and monitor their
site - Establish a protocol for the greater Caribbean area for the preservation of unique historical events and their cultural artifacts.
